Mag Spoons
 (United States)

A couple of guys that fish the other side in Lake Erie were in Steve's one day and said they use the Mag spoons as an attractor with a 5ft leader attached to a smaller spoon, think they were using stingers. I use old time sliders with just a piece of tubing to adjust where on the line I want it, but haven't ever used a mag spoon as just an attractor kind of like a flasher in front of a smaller spoon or fly. Anybody else ever try this and why not just leave the hooks on the mag and snell a trailer spoon 4-5' back? Could be another one of those go to rigs that work at certain times of the year on the big lake. I was thinking of targeting steelhead with some red or orange combos.

Re: Mag Spoons
 (N/A)

Hey mb389gto,

I have tried to attach small flies to the back of magnum spoons and generally have found that any weight added behind the hooks deadens all action of the spoon. It just drags through the water.

In the spring I have run two body baits from a three way swivel. The top one a shallow running bait and the bottom one a deep diver. It is really fun when you get a fish on both baits at once.

Great new methods are being devised every day so don't give up.

As the season progresses and more people get out on the water I am sure you will get more discussions on many subjects.Good to see you posting. keep them coming.
