Fishing Reports
05

Hello,

Just a quick update before the weekend. Fish yesterday and this morning were pretty evenly divided between the 45 and 130 ft depths. There is a lot of bait in the stained shallow waters with plenty of big fish keeping a close eye on them. The same is true in areas with slicks out deeper as we found out last night. As best I could tell bait selection was about the same in both areas with the Stinger Shanster, NBK, Orange and Green Edge, and Mixed Veggies being top picks in both standard and Stingray sizes. Spin Dr.s and flies are taking their share of fish too as our best combo, an 8" medium green blade with double pearl glow tape trailing a Pickled Sunshine fly, went 5 times on a 400' copper line last night. Most of the fish are coming from 38' to bottom in the skinny water and from 40' - 75' out deeper. Lead cores in 4 - 10 colors and coppers from 100' - 450' are all working well. Another piece of good news is that the fish are stretched out in decent numbers from well north of Grand Haven all the way down to M45. I didn't talk to anyone fishing further away than that but success seemed to be roughly equal among the group I spoke with. This is especially good news as the Holland Tournament will add some fishing pressure this weekend. The forecast for the next 10 days looks very good for this pattern to continue and I'm looking forward to being out there. The only bad news is that the few flies that are still hatching are trying to make up for their lack of numbers by being extra nasty. Bring the magnum fly swatter as they're laughing at anything less.

Several boats were talking about marking perch on their graphs last night but I didn't here of or see any caught but that should change as conditions are nearly perfect. I would also look for inland fishing to improve as the mild weather in the forecast should make everything a bit more active as next week unfolds.

Have a great weekend everybody and good luck!

Matt Whitney
