Fishing Reports
26

Hello again,

I just wanted to give you a short update in case your lucky enough to be trading your desk and mouse for a boat and fishing pole a little early this weekend. The kings have moved back into the stained water in front of Grand Haven the past couple of days. Tuesday night provided the best fishing I've had to date as we caught 8 nice kings and missed another 8 in 65' - 95' of water. The 2-4 foot waves added a degree of difficulty we didn't need but it was a fun night. Baits were pretty much the same with bright color combos doing well in the 25 - 35' range. The Modified Blue Dolphin magnum Fuzzy Bear spoon was very productive on a copper dragged close to bottom. Divers with the Kevorkian Coyote and Goldie Hawn dreamweaver spoons were steady from 135' - 150' back on the #3 setting. I'll be heading out again this afternoon and will try to report on our success tomorrow for a final bit of info for the weekend.

If bluegill fishing is your passion you're in luck. My son picked up a limit of nice gills Tuesday morning with his fly rod and a popper. The fish are right up in the shallows and the forecast for the weekend should keep them there. Saturday's Bass opener should be a good one in the area bayous with plenty of fish to go around. The weather has kept the water fairly cool so you should be able to pick the method and baits you prefer and do well. If you know of some rocky shoreline along the river the Smallmouth should be in the mood to tangle too. For those of you that enjoy fishing catfish, you too are in luck. Alex, the one with the time to give me the info to put in this report, challenged his friends to a fun little contest the other evening on our dock. The catfish were plentiful and healthy with a few tipping the scales around 10 lbs. The lunch meat that was meant for my dinner Tuesday evening was the bait of choice with smoked turkey edging out roast beef and honey baked ham.

Regardless of what you choose to do this weekend, take a moment and remember all of the fine service members that have sacrificed so much and think of those that are serving today so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have.

Have a great Memorial Day,

Matt Whitney
