Fishing Reports

Recent strong North winds and persistent East winds have cooled the water near shore. The result has been very good fishing off Grand Haven. Summer Steelhead have begun to move into the waters around the piers. Try spoons in bright orange or pink cast off the piers or trolled in the top 25 feet of water. Plan on lots of excitement as these hard fighting, high jumping silver beauties present a special challenge. Even seasoned experts feel fortunate to land half of the Steelhead hooked. If you prefer salmon, Kings are still available starting in 70 feet and continuing out to 180. Most have been coming in the top 50 feet on spoons. Our best was a downrigger 40 down with the Dreamweaver "Hello Darlin" and 7 and 10 color lead cores with the UV Mixed Veggie and the UV Capt. Gary. Lake Trout are also being caught near bottom with the usual combinations of Spin Doctors and Whirligigs. This is "Free Fishing" weekend and licenses are not required. It's a great opportunity to introduce someone to our sport. Consider taking a veteran fishing - it will be a great experience for both of you. Good Fishing, Rich
