Fishing Reports

While the Queen has been busy in England, the King has finally arrived in the waters off Grand Haven. Warming water temperatures have brought a mixed bag of Chinook (alias King) and Coho Salmon along with a few Steelhead. While Lake Trout remain available near bottom in 180 to 220 foot depths, fishermen have begun to target the long-awaited "silver fish". These fish are scattered throughout the water column in 70 to 160 feet of water. White paddles with Poofster or Oceana flies fished 70 to 115 down have taken Kings and spoons in greens and blues have been successful at mid depths. Orange seems to work best in the top 25 feet. Best depths for us ranged from 15 to 97 feet down. Some very large fish up to 26 pounds have been taken. Be sure to spool fresh line as these Spring Kings are serious fighters. Be aware of numerous floating logs and other hazards after recent flooding rains. Recent East winds have cooled the action, but warming waters should provide increased action. Good fishing! Rich
