Fishing Reports

Now that I've returned from sunny, warm Florida where the fish are biting, I'll update you on what I've heard from local fisherman over the last couple of days.

Pier fishing success has followed the weather pretty closely with decent weather providing fair success for browns. Spawn is still the bait of choice and until later this week when the weather is supposed to warm up a bit that's not likely to change. Perch fishing off of Grand Haven has provided a little better entertainment as success has been pretty good as long as the wind is light enough to let you feel the bites. Several limit catches have been taken recently with fish in the 10 - 14 inch range making up the bulk of the catch. A few smaller fish have required some sorting with about a 5:1 ratio of keepers to sorters. Minnows have taken most of the bigger fish but wigglers have caught a lot of nice fish too so it's a good idea to have both baits on board.

That's all I know at the moment but I will try to update the page again this week as I get more information to share.

See you on the water,

Matt Whitney
