Fishing Reports
01

Hello,

After several days of excellent reports from the St. Joe area my son took the kayak and headed south today. He was rewarded with several nice cohos and reported seeing a number of fish caught around him in the 12 to 25 foot depths. As is typical orange seemed to be a hot color for the other boats but his best bait was the same fire tiger patterned Willy's Worm that worked for me a couple weeks ago. He had 4 strikes on it and another on the orange and gold Yeck spoon we call Alfonz Jr. The best area appeared to be a couple miles South of the pier head. If you're interested it definitely sounds like it's worth the drive. Tomorrows forecast for stiff NW winds will give you a good chance to get your tackle ready for Sunday although the rain and the strong offshore Southeasterly winds in the forecast will probably make it a very chilly experience.

Here at home in Grand Haven the fishing pressure is picking back up with the calmer weather of the last few days but I haven't had any reports of great success yet. Considering the forecast, it looks like maybe another week of so/so fishing is in the works. Perch are still available for those that are looking for a tasty meal and an excuse to get out of the house. The bridges over the different bayous in Spring Lake are good spots to try for those that prefer to remain on solid ground and Muskegon Lake has remained steady for those willing to brave the elements in a boat.

The water level at this end of the Grand is down considerably from last weekend which should make fishing the river a bit easier. Unfortunately reports from the northern rivers have been scarce but I have heard that success has been fair to good in Grand Rapids. The rain/snow forecast for tonight and the rain expected early next week should keep fresh fish moving into the rivers. From past experience and reports, I have to believe they will be joining good numbers of fish already there and the next few weeks should be very good.

Remember, you can't catch em while you're sitting on the couch so go after em if you get the chance!

Good Luck,

Matt Whitney
