Fishing Reports

Hello again,

The cold weather the last few days has definitely slowed things down on Lake Michigan with pier and boat success dropping off rather dramatically as the week wore on. During the better days plenty of tasty young coho were showing up in the catch so look for things to improve quickly if the gradual warm-up being forecast for the area is on target.

On a positive note however, perch fishing has been quite good on both Muskegon Lake and on the bridges over the bayous of Spring Lake. Minnows and wigglers have both been productive baits this past week with plenty of limit catches being taken on both. I haven't heard anybody claim that these are jumbo's but plenty of good eaters were caught without too much sorting required seems to be the standard response. A few bluegill are also being taken in the bayous off of the Grand in 4 - 10 feet of water.

The river levels are coming back down so the fishing should get a little easier on the rivers for those of you chasing steelhead but at last report the rivers we're full of debris from the flooding of the banks and fishing was challenging.

Good luck and have fun,

Matt Whitney
